First brewed under the name "Bavaria Beer" in 1647, this iconic brewery in Hamburg Germany was renamed Astra, the Latin word for star, in 1909 and has shined ever since by its close association with the city of Hamburg and its famous nightlife & art scenes, and especially its partnership with the beloved FC St. Pauli soccer team and their associated counterculture fans. Still crafted in accordance to the Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516, allowing only water, barley and hops and yeast to be used in brewing beer.
